学名：Mallotus japonicus
トウダイグサ科アカメガシワ属
落葉高木
別名：ゴサイバ
【商品情報】
アカメガシワは10m程度になる落葉高木です。日本に自生している品種で、空き地などに生えてくるパイオニア植物です。新芽が赤色になります。初夏に白色の花を穂状につけ、秋に実がつきます。根も実も繁殖力が強く一気に繁殖することがあります。材は柔らかく下駄や薪に使われます。樹皮は生薬で胃潰瘍などに効果があるとされます。実は駆虫剤に利用されます。

あまり土壌は選びません。剪定は2～4月か6月に行います。肥料は2～3月か6月に与えます。
