70年後半にドホナーニがVPOと録音したメンデルスゾーンをまとめたセット物。指揮者の緻密な音作り、鋭敏な感覚と棒のテクニック、そしてVPOの無類の美しさがうまくマッチして極めて高水準の全集となった。どの曲もムラがなく録音もまだ充分に新鮮。(CDジャーナル)
カラヤン、アバドの全集の評価が高いようだが、響きの美しさや絶妙な緩急のつけ方など、ドホナーニ＆ＶＰＯ盤が圧倒している。３番はクレンペラー程の深みはないものの、このような爽やかで一陣の風が吹き抜けるような清々しい演奏はなかなかないのでは。２番とうい曲を聴いたことがなかったが皆さんご指摘のようにまさに圧巻！。他の曲も推薦に値する。（ＨＭＶユーザーレビューより）
