商品解説■──歴史に消えゆくテールライト！晩年仕様スロフ62！
【実車】
戦争中に疲弊した鉄道再建と、GHQによって車両新造が認められなかった時期の輸送改善に際し、大正由来の木造客車の台枠を利用して改造名義で誕生したのがオハ60系です。
のちに車体構造を改良したオハ61系に移行、2等車や郵便荷物車など、合計で3000両以上が改造されました。
1959年より旧来の2等車の座席をリクライニングシート化する際、オハ61を改造することで登場したのがオロ61です。
片側デッキの封鎖と便所の増設、台車の交換などが行われましたが、車体の基本構造は変わらず座席と窓ピッチが一致しませんでした。
また、乗務員室に手ブレーキを装備、妻板にテールライトを設置した緩急車型オロフ61も登場し、これらは1967年から冷房改造を受けて重量区分が変更された結果、スロ62、スロフ62と改称されて夜行急行列車には欠かせない存在として旧型客車末期まで活躍を続けました。
スロフ62-2032は1970年2月にスロ62-2114を緩急車化して登場、名古屋客貨車区で活躍しましたが、晩年は福井客貨車区に配置、等級帯が省略された姿で急行「越前」で最後の活躍が見られました。
