| 商品説明 | エドワード・ホッパー【1882-1967】20世紀アメリカの具象絵画を代表する１人です。彼の描きだす風景や人々はごく普通のありふれたものでありながら、そこに画き出された孤独の影と、それぞれの人々をドラマチックに表現しています。ニューヨーク州ナイアックに生まれ、幼い頃に画家を志した彼は、商業美術の学校に進んだのち、さらにニューヨーク美術学校で絵画を学ぶほどの勉強家でもありました。そこで出会った同校の教師ロバート・ヘンライはアシュカン派、通称ごみ箱派といわれる絵画の指導的画家であり、エドワードの作品に満ち溢れるアメリカン・ライフの写実的描写はその影響を強く受けていたようです。都会の街路、オフィス、劇場、ガソリンスタンド、灯台、田舎家など日常的によく目にするようなありふれた景色、見慣れた都市や郊外の風景を、単純化された構図と色彩、大胆な明度対比もって強調された輪郭線で描く彼の作品はどこか現実の非常さ、世界の実際などを訴えかけてくるようです。エドワードの現実的な描写は今日のアメリカのみならず世界中で評価を得て、高い人気をもっています。 |
