－40歳代の録音ながら年老いているように聞こえる声質・表現。現代の歌手のような器用さは全くありませんが、その深々とした素朴さが唯一無二の美質になっています。[1]の弱めのヴォリュームによる優しく語るような表現は驚き。うまく立派に聞かせようとする気がさらさらない。心に染み入る歌です。終曲のアリアではヴォータンたる正体を少し現すかのようです。－[2]はブラームス最晩年に書かれた死に向き合った作品ですが、ホッターにはまさしくピッタリの曲。テクニカルではないところで死への恐怖や諦観を見事に表現しています。
