篁菜穂(高畑充希)は熱心な美術収集家で私設美術館まで設立した祖父から受け継いだ美術館の副館長を務めていた。/夫・一輝(風間俊介)もまた銀座にある画廊の3代目だったが、彼がどんなに努力しても敵わない慧眼を菜穂は持っており、美術の世界に没頭する妻を愛しながらも時にその才能に嫉妬する。/身重の菜穂は、東京の喧騒を避け京都に長期滞在する中、ある1枚の絵に遭遇する。“青葉”を描いたその作品の作者は、言葉を発することのできない白根樹(SUMIRE)という無名の画家だった。/その絵に吸い込まれるように強烈に惹かれた菜穂は、樹が京都画壇で影響力を持つ日本画家・志村照山(松重豊)によって自由を奪われていることを知り、声なき訴えを確信する。照山もまた、養女であり弟子の樹の才能を脅威に感じていた。/樹の絵を追ううちに菜穂は、美の住人たちの欲望が交錯する世界へと誘われてゆき、運命を変えるようなある真実にたどり着く……。
