個人的に大好きな作品です。トランペットの技巧と表現力では、まず歴史上でも上位にくるトランペッターのフレディーですが、これといった、大傑作は作れませんでした。ブルーノート時代は、リーダー作よりもむしろ、サイドマンとして、八面六臂の活躍で
、’60年代ブルーノートの顔といってもいいでしょう。このアルバムは、昔からの愛聴盤なので、多少ひいき目があるとしても、やはり
、彼の代表作だと思います。ジミー・ヒースやフィリー・ジョーといったやや保守的ながらも、充分に気合の入った面子でのびのびと
気持ちよくプレイしているフレディーが全曲にわたって楽しめます。彼のリーダー作では、不当に評価の低い作品のように思えるの
ですが、曲も最高にかっこいい曲ばかりだし、何せ快調に吹きまくるフレディーが、素晴らしいの一言です。
