ドイツ人を母親に持ち、イタリア人でギタリストの養父に育てられたレゴンディは、少年期より父子でギターの演奏活動を行った神童でした。大成功を収めていたロンドン演奏旅行中、父が持ち金の殆どを持ち逃げしてしまうという悪夢のような出来事がありましたが、その後もロンドンで活躍。クララ・ヴィークとの共演も成しています。残されたギター作品の量は多くありませんが、12の愉悦感でもわかるように、見逃せない個性を放ちます。輝かしい演奏効果で、19世紀の最も野心的なギター作品と評価し得る「10の練習曲」は20世紀末に再発見されました。その出版に関わったギタリスト自身が共感を込めて奏でます。
