函にやや汚れとヤケがありますが、本体の状態は良好です。
紹介…昭和19年2月、戦時中に出版された名作の完全復刻版です。
当時の挿絵も綺麗に掲載されています。
戦時下の紙が不足していた時期に出た本とは思えないほど、たっぷりとした大判にカラーの表紙を巻いた豪華版です。
壺井榮といえば「二十四の瞳」ですが、戦争や当時の社会相の知識が多少はついてから読み直してみたら、驚くほど次から次へと新しい発見があり、一方で設定の矛盾みたいなものもあれこれ目について、とにかく新鮮な感動を味わいました。
本書にも小豆島と本土を結ぶ連絡船や休憩所の様子、施餓鬼のご馳走のメニューなどに昭和初期の風情と生活感が満載で、カテゴリー上は児童書からの出品としましたが、むしろオトナに読んでほしい一冊です。
何しろ戦時中、お父さんやお兄さんは出征中で名誉の戦死をしてしまったり、朝鮮人の女中さんに日本語を教えたり…と、今どきのお子様には分からないであろう世界が舞台です。
