小曽根真が2013年12月に東京で開催した毎年恒例のクリスマス・コンサートで実現したスパー・カルテットによるライヴ録音が、公演から10年の時を経て遂にリリース。小曽根、ブランフォード・マルサリス、ジェフ“テイン”ワッツの3人は、80年代前半にバークリー音楽大学で共に学び、当時ボストンで一緒に演奏していたんだ旧知の間柄。そして、小曽根、テイン、クリスチャン・マクブライドは2012年にトリオ・アルバム『マイ・ウィッチズ・ブルー』を発表しています。演奏曲はすべて小曽根のオリジナル曲。このステージの為に書き下ろした「エンカウンター」から、ダイナミックでストレートアヘッドなジャズを展開しています。ブランフォード・マルサリスとロブ“ワッコ”ハンターがミキシングを担当。 (C)RS
