名古屋に向かう弥次郎と喜多八の前で、蜂須賀藩の大名行列が慌てて引き返していた。なんと諸大名に限り通行を禁止するとの御触れが出ていたのだ。その理由を探ろうと動き出す二人の前に、絶世の美女が現れる。

美濃の高須へ向い、木曽川を遡る二人は峠越えの途中に狩りをする高須藩の藩主に出会う。藩主はどうやら弥次郎の知り合いらしく、弥次郎は領主に城へ連れて行かれてしまう。あくまで他人と言い張る弥次郎を、家老は幕府隠密と疑う。
