DAYTONに在籍していたことでも知られるEVAN ROGERS。85年リリースのソロ作が 極上のボーナスを加えてエクスパンデット・エディションで初CD化! イタリア出身の白人シンガーEVAN ROGERS。その名前が一気に広まったのはDAYTONの3枚目『HOT FUN』に参加してから。RHYTHM SYNDICATEを結成してからの活躍も記憶に残っているリスナーも多々いる事とは思うが、85年のこのソロ作も忘れちゃいけません。 12インチ・オンリーでソロとしては最も評価されている「Secret Love」をボーナスとして収録する、大盤振る舞いでの初CD化となります。 DAYTONではその洗練されたファンク・センスを披露。一躍、80s、ファンク系リスナーから高い評価を浴びたEVAN ROGERSだが、このソロ作ではファンクにこだわらず幅広い色を押し出そうとする本人の意気込みが感じられます。オープニングの「Hold On」は産業ロック然としたミディアム。その後に続くプリンスのカバーも本家よりさらにロッキッシュに。EVELYN KINGとのデュエットでようやく落ち着きを感じさせた後も、やはり殿下の「Let's Go Crazy 」ノリのギンギンのアップ「Sweet 16」でスパーク。しかしこの時代を感じさせるファンク・ナンバーもしっかり入っており、「Don't Jump To Conclusions」や「I'll Break The Rules For You」などはデジタルをうまく活かした好ファンク。そしてやはりこのリイシューで決め手としたいのはボーナスとしての収録だが、12インチ・オンリーでリリースされていた「Secret Love」。これは誰もが認めるN.Y.系ダンサーの名曲ですが、かつてコンピにも収録されたことが無く、このボーナスだけでもかなりの価値があるリイシューと言えるのではないでしょうか。
