普賢菩薩普賢菩薩の普は遍く一切の意。賢は最妙善の義で身口意の三業を消滅する。文殊の智徳に対し、普賢の理徳で釈迦如来の脇侍として祭られる。また、文殊・普賢の伝説では二人は阿弥陀如来の王子で兄の文殊が智・慧を代表するため獅子にのり、弟の普賢が定・行を代表するため白象にのり、徳性を表すとある。造形はさまざまで六牙の白象に乗る。
