手組み紐は日本が世界に誇る優れた組紐で
糸の持つ特徴を巧みに綾のみで組み上げた芸術作品です
組紐の世界で 業界の至宝と謳われていた五嶋紐の創業者である『無形文化財故五嶋敏太郎』は
明治十二年 東京日本橋に生まれ 八十有余年 組紐一筋に専念し 組紐の研究創作で業績を上げ
昭和三十五年に文化庁から無形文化財の指定を受けました
組紐という圧倒的な伝統美に 時代という鮮烈な血液を注ぎ込んだ五嶋敏太郎爺の仕事ぶりは
その生涯そのものが江戸組紐の『巧』と『粋』を極めるものでした
その爺が弟子に常づね語っていた言葉に
「組みの技術というのは三十年でやっと手が枯れて柔らかく美しい紐が組めるようになる」というものがあります
『美の完成』に生きた爺の精神を受け継いだ熟練の弟子たちによって
生糸の吟味から染色組技法まで一つ一つにこだわって大切に作成しております
