この本の元になったのは2002年から2004年にイー・ピックスから出版された『ケセン語訳新約聖書:全四巻』です。 『ケセン語訳新約聖書』を出版し、これが注目され、山浦さんが全国で講演をする度にどの地でも言われたことは、「ケセン語の聖書は新共同訳聖書よりもわかりやすくストンと心に収まるけれど、やっぱりケセン語ではわかりづらい。今度はぜひ"日本語"で聖書を翻訳してほしい」という声でした。 そして、『ケセン語訳新約聖書』の出版から10年以上を経た2013年10月に完成したのがこの『ガリラヤのイェシュー』です。この本は、出版わずか半年で1万冊も売れ、大ベストセラーになりました。 ちょっと聞き慣れない「イェシュー」という言葉はもちろんイエスのことですが、本来はヘブライ語で「イェホーシュア」と言うそうですが、訛(なま)りの強いユダヤ北のガリラヤ地方では訛って「イェシュー」と言ったのだとか。そこで本書のタイトルは『ガリラヤのイェシュー』となったわけです。日本の東北にある気仙地方は、ユダヤのガリラヤ地方と同じように首都から北にはずれた地理関係にあるのです。しかも、ガリラヤと同じに訛りも強い。
