【 天使 】
5世紀頃にギリシャ人の偽ディオニュシオスの著書「天上位階論」に記した天使の霊的位階を顕した図式で、神と人を結ぶ存在である天使を霊的進化段階に応じて3位階×3階級の9つの階級で分類。
天使はその中で第九階級。
天体では月を表し、「エンジェル」、「アンジェリ」とも表現される。
ヘブライ語の「マラーク(使者)」を語源とするギリシャ語の「アンゲロイ」から生み出された「神」の御使い。
更に遡るとペルシャ語の「アンゲロス」を経てサンスクリット語の「アンギラス(神霊)」まで至るともされる。
元々は聖書に於ける「御使い」全てを指す言葉であったが、天使の９階級に組み込まれた場合には「使者」「伝令」の役目を持つ「人間」の守護者として扱われる。
天使が両性具有や無性であると云う伝説は、「守護する人間の反対の性別に変化していく」と云う俗説から生まれた物。
天使の総数については様々な説があるが、上記の説に従えば全人類に憑く位には居るらしい事が解る。
