－ツィンマーマンはドイツ・デュースブルク生まれ (1965- )。1975年 10歳でモーツァルトのヴァイオリン協奏曲第3番を弾いてデビュー。翌年 エッセンの音楽院に入学するとともに、全国青少年音楽家コンクールで優勝し「天才少年出現」として評判になりました。その後 ベルリン芸術大学でサシュコ・ガヴリーロフ、1980年にはヘルマン・クレバースに師事しました。1983年 初来日して若杉弘&ケルン放送響と共演、その翌年にはマゼール&ピッツバーグ響と共演してアメリカ・デビューを果たすなど 10代から華々しい活動をおこないました。当アルバムもツィンマーマン若き日の録音。EMIへの5点目でした。ちなみに それまでの4点のアルバムはいずれも協奏曲で、ベートーヴェンとモーツァルトの全曲 (3枚) でした。当アルバムは初のロマン派以降の作品ということになります。－ツィンマーマンは1991年 ヤンソンス&PO とプロコフィエフの第2番を録音しました (EMI)。
