【リビアングラスの豆知識】
海外ではリビアンデザートガラスまたはグレートサンドシーガラスとも呼ばれており、約2900万年前に隕石が衝突した衝撃で出来たガラス質の結晶だとされ、表面は砂漠の砂で磨かれ角が滑らかになっているものがほとんどです。モルダバイトよりも古い歴史を持ち古代エジプトの人々はリビアングラスに特別な力があると信じてきました。ツタンカーメン王の墓からはリビアングラスを使った両刃の手斧やアンティークガラスで作られた石炭船が出土し、この絢爛豪華な船の中央にはリビアングラスで作られたスカラベが装飾されており、古代エジプト人達により大切に扱われてきたことを感じさせます。
