沈められた真実を暴け！/水が人々の生活を支える街、天津。河の神を称える祭が開かれる最中、川底から天津を牛耳る漕運商会の丁(ディン)会長の遺体が見つかる。水死処理隊の隊長である郭得友(グオ・ドーヨウ)は、師匠から受け継いだ“煙”の術を用いることで死の真相を探り、その魂を鎮めようとする。しかし、丁会長の息子で、ドイツで法医学を学んだ丁卯(ディン・マオ)は、郭得友が煙の術で知り得た“真実”を信じようとはしない。超感覚的な郭得友と科学万能主義の丁卯。2人はことあるごとに対立する。それでも事件を解決したい2人は、渋々手を組んで捜査を進めることに。そんな中、丁会長と共に見つかった子供の遺体が何者かに奪われる。会長の死と関係があるかもしれないと睨んだ2人は子供の遺体の行方を追う。そして、天津の名家・薛(シュエ)家で、失踪していた娘とその子供の葬儀がひっそりと行われたことを突き止める。娘の父親は、娘は河で溺れたというものの、いくつもの水死体を見てきた郭得友は、娘の遺体に違和感を覚える。
