法被（はっぴ）とは、日本の伝統衣装で、祭などの際に着用し、また、職人などが着用する印半纏のことです。
一般に、腰丈または膝丈の羽織の形式で、襟の折返しも胸紐もなく、筒袖または広袖の単純な形をしているのが特徴である。
元々、武士が家紋を大きく染め抜いた法被を着用したのに始まり、それを職人や町火消なども着用するようになった。
本来の法被は胸紐つきの単（ひとえ）であるのに対し、半纏は袷（あわせ）であるが、江戸時代末期に区別がなくなった。
襟から胸元にかけて縦に文字（襟文字）を入れることで着用している者の所属や名、意思を表したりすることができる。
「大工留吉」「め組小頭」「いらっしゃいませ」など。
祭礼に用いる法被には、それぞれ所属や年齢などから「御祭禮」、「若睦」、「中若」、「小若」などの襟文字が入れられる
