普通の墨同様、硯を使用して下さい。墨汁用のセラミック硯はなかなか擦れません。描く素材によって又液の濃淡によって雰囲気が違ってきます。目的の素材に試し書きをしてからお使いください。布へ描いた後乾燥してしまえば水洗いしても色移りはありません。型染め用の糊、ロウ、ステンシルシートなどと合わせて使う事ができます。
Ｔシャツに描いての洗濯は中性洗剤手洗いなら色落ちは気にならないほどです。
藍染めは通常、繊維の中で色素が水に溶けない顔料に変化する事ですが、藍の墨で描くことは、顔料を膠（固着剤）を使って着色する方法なので一般的な藍染めとは異なります。
