水素を使ったガス灯の製造法で、ホブソン・ベンジャミンの『博物新編』を参考にした、と記されている。
「水素と二酸化炭素を混ぜて銅製の筒に入れロウソクの代わりにする」とあるが、実際は実用化されなかった。

生気(養気ともいふ)を分れバ軽気・淡気・炭気ありて、
それぞれニ取法あり。炭気ハ毒あり。然どもこれを
とり火をつくれバもゆるのミニて光無し。
軽気ハ光あり。故ニ炭・軽の二気をとりて
燈蝋燭十丁ニかゆる大益なり。佛・英
の国々ニハ之ヲ売る店ありといふ。
炭・軽二気を取法
まづ銅ニて□□□かくの
ごとき筒をこしらへる。
さて石炭をつミて火をつけ、その
火勢のもれぬやうニして、その上ニ
右のつつを数々逆ニして置、二気のほり
つつの中ニ入、ろうそくニ用ゆべし。
博物新編といふ西洋之書物ニ見えたり。
