山陰の城下町を旅する寅さん、かつて恋い焦がれた歌子さんと再会！何と、彼女は幸せ薄い未亡人だった……!?/えっ寅さん(渥美清)が結婚!?というびっくり仰天のシーンから始まる『男はつらいよ』シリーズ第13作は、第9作『柴又慕情』のマドンナ歌子役の吉永小百合が再び登場する。/今回は早々と失恋し、傷心の想いで旅を続ける寅さんが、2年前に恋心を募らせた歌子と津和野の地で再会。しかし、父親(宮口精二)の反対を押し切って家を飛び出し結婚した彼女だったが、今は夫に死なれて未亡人になっていた……。/寅さんは、歌子への恋の再燃といったよう要素もさながら、前回では描ききれなかった娘と父の絆に深く関わることにもなり、そのさまが感動的に描かれている。名優・宮口精二いぶし銀のごとき名演も印象的。また本作で二代目おいちゃんこと松村達雄が出番終了となるが、彼はこの後も役柄を変えてシリーズにしばしば登場する。
