【ストーリー】
1939年5月、ハンブルグ港から937人の乗客とともに客船セントルイス号はキューバに向けて出航した。
乗客の大半がユダヤ人だった。冷静で責任感のある船長シュレーダーはクリスチャンだが、ユダヤ人に同情的だった。
船にはゲシュタポに追われている弁護士のカールと、妻と美しい娘アンナ、
高名な大学教授のクライスラーと、妻、娘の元へ向かうハウザー夫人、教師のジョセフ、
船長付のグンターらがそれぞれの思いを持って乗っていた。
やがて、キューバに到着するが、ナチによる反ユダヤ感情の煽りを受けて、
キューバ政府が上陸を拒否し、船内に暗雲が立ち込めた…
