〔一点物〕タンカ - 金剛手菩薩 ヴァジュラ・パニ[30cm x 40cm]の説明
■ヴァジュラ・パニ
チベット仏教においては金剛手菩薩は本初仏（原初の仏、すべての仏の母体としての究極の仏）の一仏とされています。右手に手にするのは金剛と訳されたヴァジュラ。固いもの・揺るぎないもの・真理を意味します。金剛手菩薩のマントラにはすべての悪行を清める力があるとされています。女性的な柔らかさを感じさせる金剛薩た（ヴァジュラ・サットゥバ）と異なり、仏法を守る怒りに満ちた造形が際立ちます。周囲には炎をまとい髪は逆立ち、力強く煩悩を打ち破る姿が表現されています。
■タンカとは
タンカとはチベット仏教の教えを目に見える形にすることでその教えを理解しやすくすることを助けるもの、そしてチベット僧の重要な行いの一つの「瞑想」の手助けをするものです。タンカの図柄には色々なものがありますが、代表的なものにはチベットの高僧であるミラレパを描いたものや、千手観音などの神様を描いたもの、そしてヤントラやマンダラと呼ばれる図形を描いたものがあります。
私たち日本人にとってはマンダラなどの図形を書いたものが人気ですが、本場ネパールやチベットでは神様を描いたものが人気なようです。
