物語の舞台は、朝鮮王朝第5代王・文宗(ムンジョン)の時代。朝廷の重臣キム・ジョンソの息子・スンユは、王座を狙う文宗の弟・首陽大君(スヤンテグン)の娘・セリョンと、そうとは知らず恋に落ちる。静かに愛を育むスンユとセリョン。しかし、首陽大君が起こした朝鮮王朝史に残るクーデター「癸酉靖難(ケユジョンナン)」によって二人の運命は一変する。家族を惨殺され、復讐の鬼と化すスンユ。セリョンが首陽大君の娘であることを知り、二人は宿敵となってしまう…。史実をモチーフに、運命に翻弄される二人の悲しく切ないラブストーリーを描く“朝鮮王朝版 ロミオとジュリエット”。
