西脇順三郎
（1894～1982）新潟県生れの詩人、英文学者。画家を志望するも気風に馴染めず、父親の急死もあり画家の道を断つ。
慶應義塾大学予科入学後、フランス象徴派詩人を知る。のち同大学文学部教授に就任。
1930年『シュルレリスム文學論』と英訳詩集を発表、以後発表した詩篇を朔太郎、犀星が絶賛。
第二次世界大戦前のモダニズム、ダダイズム、シュルレアリスム運動の中心人物として活躍。
1982年、急性心不全のため88歳の生涯を閉ず。死後、幾度となくノーベル文学賞の候補となっていた
ことが判明。判断資料の不足と頑迷固陋の推薦者のためと判明。小説と詩歌、世界の受容度を惜しむ。
