第7話 爆破隠し金輸送
下野の国・玉生付近は金の産地。多くは幕府直轄の金山だったが、中には、太田原藩の隠し金山があった。発見すれば、即刻藩はお取り潰しという重大な秘密である。財政困難におちいっていた藩を立て直そうと城代家老・渡辺半左衛門と目付役、金沢達人らは、この金山からとれた十万両を江戸へ送ろうと企てる。
第8話 復讐 黒羽の女
黒羽藩の所で、ご落職の弥太郎と名乗る男が役人たちに襲われていた。通りがかった九十郎は鉄砲隊の前に身をさらして、弥太郎の逃亡を助ける。黒羽藩では藩主が病に倒れ、跡目相続の問題が発生していたのだ。藩主にはかつて江戸で生ませた男子がいたが、行方知れずとなっていた。そのため、城代家老は幼い鶴千代を跡目にと迫る。
第9話 脱出 死を呼ぶ谷
山々の谷躍こ小さく固まった寒村。望月藩東五が所は、うち続く冷害と苛酷な年貢取り立てにたまりかね一揆を起こした。しかし、家老・神原主膳一派の容赦ない弾圧政策で首謀者の大半が虐殺された。抜け目のない次郎吉は、村人たちから金を取り「逃がし屋」を開業したが、たちまち望月藩に捕まり首吊りの刑をいいわたされる。
