宮崎駿監督が、友人の10歳の少女に見せたいという思いから作り上げたこの『千と千尋の神隠し』。2001年夏に公開されるや、批評家筋からの高い評価と多くの観客からの支持を得て、それまでの国内映画興行記録を全て塗り替える大ヒットとなった。さらに、2002年のベルリン国際映画祭でも、グランプリにあたる「金熊賞」をアニメ作品としてはじめて受賞。全世界で、大きなセンセーションを巻き起こした。
