標準版ピアノ楽譜『ベルガマスク組曲』『子供の領分』と同じく、ジェルメーヌ・ムニエの序文と解説、山崎孝氏による校訂報告と運指で構成。2001年発行の標準版ピアノ楽譜『C.ドビュッシー 12の練習曲』のリニューアル版となる。ドビュッシーの《練習曲》は、作曲家が遺した「自分で自分の指づかいを探そう」という言葉どおり、運指がつけられた楽譜があまりなく、指づかいに悩むことも少なくない。そこで、山崎孝氏がジェルメーヌ・ムニエ（パリ高等音楽院名誉教授）やローズル・シュミット（ミュンヘン音楽大学教授）から引き継いだ「合理的な運指法」を掲載した。また、巻末には「ペダル用法の例」を複数提示、奏者のヒントとなる。さらに、自筆譜・初版・原典版などを緻密に比較した校訂報告は必見。
