●1945年9月26日生まれ、ブラジル・バイーア州サルヴァドール出身の歌手。
60年代後半に興ったポップスと伝統音楽の融合運動“トロピカリズモ”を牽引し、
69年にソロ・デビュー作『ガル・コスタ』をリリース。
●“MPBの女王”と称され、「ベイビー」「フェスタ・ド・インテリオール」などのヒットを放ち、国民的歌手として高い人気を博す。
来日公演も多数。
●2011年にラテン・グラミー賞生涯功労賞を受賞。2022年11月9日にサンパウロで死去。77歳没。
