ベートーヴェンが完成させた唯一のオペラ≪フィデリオ≫。この原作はフランスの役人ジャン・ニコラ・ブイイがトゥーレーヌで起きた実際の事件を元に仕立てた作品であり、女性が男装して囚われの夫を救い出すというユニークな設定の根底に流れる英雄的精神が当時大評判となったものです。この物語を最初にオペラにしたのが、このガヴォーの≪レオノール≫で、ベートーヴェンの『レオノーレ』第1稿よりも7年ほど前に完成されています。ガヴォーの作品は、ベートーヴェンのような厳めしさは感じられず、全体的にのどかで牧歌的。冒頭のマルセリーヌのアリアも純朴で美しい舞曲であり、清楚な雰囲気を漂わせています。颯爽とした舞台姿が美しいマクラーレンのフィデリオ、悪役然としたピザール役のコテら、実力ある歌手たちによる歌唱に加え、オペラ・ラファイエットによる鮮やかな演奏は、忘れられた作品を色鮮やかに蘇らせるとともに、聴衆の興味と好奇心を刺激、知られざるオペラを見る楽しみを与えてくれます。 (C)RS
