生涯に12曲の交響曲を書いたヴィラ=ロボス(1887-1959)。自由な作風を求めた彼と“新古典派”の様式は必ずしも親和性の高いものではなく、1910年代に書かれた交響曲第1番や第2番は、まだまだ後期ロマン派の影響が強く、実験的要素の高いものでしたが、1940年代から50年代に書かれた第6番以降の交響曲では、ブラジルの民族音楽をふんだんに取り入れた独自の作風を確立させることに成功、世界大戦中の不穏な空気も取り込んだ激しい作品を次々と書き上げました。21世紀に入り“交響曲作曲家”として再評価高まるヴィラ=ロボス晩年の3作を収録。サンパウロ交響楽団/イザーク・カラブチェフスキー(指揮)による2015年/2016年録音。 (C)RS
