雨龍とは【読み方】「あめりゅう」「あまりょう」「うりゅう」大まかに言うとこの三種で呼ばれることが多い。
巻を起こし、天に昇って雨を降らすという「雨龍」を文様化したものです。
龍は、鳳凰とともに古代中国で作り出された想像上の動物で、鳳凰、麟、亀とともに四霊の一つとして数えられ全ての生き物の祖とされています。
また水を司る聖獣とされており、雲、雷など、雨を表す文様とあわせて意匠化されることが多い柄です。
日本では万能力を示す吉祥文されています。
