彼のアルトサックス奏者（このアルバムでは全編アルトで通しています）としての正にピークを捉えた演奏の一つと断言できる快演です。彼のアドリブ・ラインと表裏一体のような自身のオリジナルを中心とした選曲で、例えばアップテンポでブロウする冒頭曲、グッとテンポを落としてかなり屈折したバラ
ードの2、3、5曲目、M-Baseライクなホーンとパーカスが入るラテン・ビートの4、10曲目、拍子が掴みにくい不思議チューンの8曲目などなど・・・ど
のような場面でも、Gregのアルトはキレています。唯一のスタンダードの9曲目”Tenderly”での、前後の流れとはちょっと変わって素直な（とは言って
も「それなりの素直さ」ではありますが）バラード吹奏もしんみりと聴かせます。そしてもう一つ特筆すべきは、リズム陣のクオリティの高さ、中で
もJason Moranの存在です。私の手元では、本作がJasonの最も古い録音（おそらく彼の最初のレコーディングと思われます）で、この後Gregと共演を重ね
る二人の初顔合わせとなるセッションですが、ソロ、バッキングともにGregの「屈折感」にピタリと呼応するJasonのプレイで、初顔合わせにして二人の
相性はバッチリです。そして、各曲でフィーチャーされるピアノソロは、短いながらも自信に満ちた風格さえ感じさせるようなプレイです。このレコーデ
ィングでスタートしたGregとJasonのコンビは、私が大好きなMark Turner（マーク・ターナー）とEthan Iverson（イーサン・アイバーソン）とのそれ
と同レベルの高み・深みを感じます。最後にもう一点、6、10曲目ではMark Shimが短いながらも彼らしいソロをGregと交換する場面があり、贔屓の二人
のサックス奏者を同時に味わえるというのも、個人的には嬉しい限りです。トホホなジャケットからは想像できないようなシビアな演奏が繰り広げられる
力作で、何度も申し上げますように、Greg Osbyのピークを捉えた会心のアルバムです
