【ナツグミ】(夏茱萸)
学名：Elaeagnus multiflora
グミ科グミ属
落葉小高木
別名：ヤマグミ、サツキグミ
【名前の由来】
夏に果実が熟すため
【商品情報】ナツグミは4mになる落葉小高木です。北海道から九州まで広く分布します。葉は楕円形～卵形で、先端が尖り互生します。葉の裏面には細かい銀色の毛が密生し褐色の斑点があります。花は淡黄色であまり目立ちません。葉の付け根部分より柄を伸ばし春に開花します。花弁がなく、花弁に見えるのは萼です。幹は若木のうちは灰色で、成木になると褐色になります。夏に熟す果実は食用にもなりますが渋味があります。ナツグミの変種で、トウグミ、ダイオウグミ(ビックリグミ)などがあります。材としては丈夫で大工道具の柄や囲炉裏の一部に使用されることがあります。
【育て方】
土質は選びませんが、日当たりの良い場所を好みます。痩せ地でも成長します。乾燥に強く、水はけの悪い場所では育ちが悪くなりますので、水はけの良い場所で育てます。剪定には強いですが、枝が暴れやすいため形を整えるのは難しい樹木です。
