【内容】
正義の味方コンビ・中大兄皇子と中臣鎌足が、大悪人の蘇我入鹿を成敗して成し遂げた政治改革を「大化の改新」と言う。

明治17年、美術研究家アーネスト・フェノロサと岡倉天心は奈良の法隆寺・夢殿の中にある謎の仏像を見ようとした。その仏像は「救世観音」と呼ばれ、聖徳太子をモデルにしたとされる。
ところが白布でぐるぐる巻きにされて1200年以上も封印され、誰も見ることができない。
おまけに、その仏像を見ようとすると天変地異が起こるという伝承まで残されていたのだ。
ふたりが夢殿の扉を開こうとすると、恐怖に駆られた僧達が逃げ出すほど。
しかも仏像を調べると、後頭部に釘が打ち込んであった！！ありがたき聖徳太子の化身を、なぜ人目に触れぬよう封印し、釘を打ち込み、絶対秘仏とせねばならなかったのか？
まるで、その祟りを恐れているかのようである。
