著者の鷲津清静師は、西山浄土宗という小さな宗派の布教師であり、その第一人者であったというのが、現世における姿であった。

師が一寺の住職となった時、晋山式を前にした一ヶ月間、毎日払暁に水をかぶる水行を行って式に臨んだというのである。師にとって住職になることは、僧侶として全身で生きることであり、実践することであった。その足跡として残された本全集には、行と学に心血を注いだ「僧」の姿が結晶している。
