これまでの「ウォーキング・デッド」は、生存者たちが終末期に次々と起こる災難に巻き込まれて友情と信頼関係が揺らぎながら、過去の悪党や新たな脅威と闘ってきた。アレクサンドリアはウィスパラーによって徹底的に破壊されたせいで、かつての面影は消え町としてほとんど機能しない状態になっていた。/アレクサンドリアにいる全員がなんとか町の守りを固め、急増した住人の食糧をまかなおうとしていた。陥落した王国と焼け落ちたヒルトップの生存者が集まったために人口が増えていて、その中にはマギーと彼女が出会った新たなグループも含まれていた。アレクサンドリアは食べさせることも守ることもできない程の数の住人を抱えてしまっていた。壁が崩壊したことで過去の出来事への不安や自衛の意識がかきたてられ、町に緊張感が漂う。/アレクサンドリアを立て直す一方で十分な食糧を確保できなければ、今まで数え切れない程見てきた他のコミュニティーと同じように町そのものが崩壊してしまう。しかし、食糧がある場所も手に入れる手段も分からない。深刻な食糧不足に陥れば、大人たちは自分の食べる量を減らしてでも子供たちの命を守る努力をしなければいけなくなる。/一方、アレクサンドリアの住人が知らないところで、ユージーン、エゼキエル、ユミコ、プリンセスは寡黙で大きな組織に属する謎の兵士に捕えられていた。
