1934年生まれのアメリカのピアニスト、ヴァン・クライバーン。
その名を冠したコンクールに辻井伸行さんが優勝したことで、日本でも再び栄光のピアニストとしてのクライバーンに光が当てられています。
当ボックスは、ＲＣＡからこれまでに発売されたクライバーンの全録音を一つのボックスに集成したものです。
クライバーンにとってのデビュー盤となった1958年の記念碑的なチャイコフスキーのピアノ協奏曲第１番にはじまり、
ライナー＆シカゴ響、ユージン・オーマンディ＆フィラデルフィア管らと共演したベートーヴェンからラフマニノフに至るピアノ協奏曲の数々、
お得意のショパン、ブラームス、ドビュッシーなどロマン派のピアノ作品集、アンコール小品集、
そしてＲＣＡへの最後の録音となった1977年のブラームス・アルバムにいたるまで、クライバーンの約20年の演奏の軌跡をたどることができます。
それらに加えて、1972年にモスクワで収録されたコンドラシン＆モスクワ・フィルとのラフマニノフのピアノ協奏曲第２番とパガニーニ狂詩曲という貴重な録音と、
