2001年早々にVH1局で放送された番組、『ストーリーテラー』で、ザ・ドアーズが行った1時間あまりのセッションでは知恵を絞った演出がおこなわれた。故人で伝説のシンガー、ジム・モリソン。彼の代わりはいないという事実を受け止めるドアーズ（レイ・マンザレク、ロビー・クリーガー、ジョン・デンズモア）は、さまざまな人気バンドからヴォーカルを招き、ドアーズの往年のヒット8曲を独自の解釈で歌ってくれるように頼んだのだ。モリソンの亡霊はショー全体に不気味におおいかぶさり、あのレザーをまとったカリスマ、“リザード・キング”のヴォーカル・スタイル、深遠さ、心臓をかきむしるソウルでかなうものはいないことを知らしめる。それであれば、うやうやしいオマージュを捧げる機会をファンである若手ロッカー達に楽しんでもらうのが一番いいやり方だし、事実、彼らは素晴らしい力量でやってのけた。それ以上に良かったのは、ドアーズのメンバーだ。3人となった彼らだが、何千回となく演奏した曲にいまだに火をつけることができるのだ。パトリック・モナハン（トレイン）のシャープな「ラヴ・ミー・トゥ・タイムズ」の演奏でショーは幕を開け、カルトのイアン・アストベリーは「ウィスキー・バー」~「バック・ドア・マン」のメドレーを（ほぼ成功といえるぐらい）モリソンのレベルまでもっていく。ハイライトはトラヴィス・ミークス（デイズ・オブ・ザ・ニュー）で、「ジ・エンド」の演奏はフレッシュで情熱がこもっており、概して大成功。同じぐらい良かったのがストーン・テンプル・パイロッツのスコット・ウェイランド（明らかにモリソンの崇拝者）。「ブレーク・オン・スルー」「ファイヴ・トゥ・ワン」でたっぷりと情熱を注いだ熱いパフォーマンスを披露した。クリードのスコット・スタップの「ハートに火をつけて」（オリジナルにはまだ到達不可能なことを証明してしまった）、素晴らしい「ロードハウス・ブルース」でショーは終了。各パフォーマンスは注目に値すべきもので、熱心なドアーズ・ファンはこの近年の祝祭を見逃す手はない。モリソンの遺産をあまり知らない若いリスナーは、実は一番特なのではないだろうか？ 昔と今、どちらもベストなものを体験できるのだから。（Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com）
