1933年、東京・浅草生まれ。寺の住職の息子として育つ。早稲田大学文学部中退。中学生の頃からNHKラジオに脚本の投稿を始め、大学在学中から放送の世界にかかわる。以降、テレビやラジオ番組の放送作家、作詞家、語り手、歌手などの幅広い方面で活躍中。TBSラジオ「永六輔の誰かとどこかで」「土曜ワイドラジオTOKYO永六輔その新世界」は共に長寿番組として知られる。作詞家として世に送り出した曲には、「上を向いて歩こう」「黒い花びら」「こんにちは赤ちゃん」「見上げてごらん夜の星を」などの昭和を代表する曲が多い(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)
