メイナード・ファーガスン、バディ・リッチの下で活動した後、自己のクィンテットを結成。
８８年から５年間、シナトラのバック・バンドにも参加した。
若手主流派ジャズの中でピカイチ、何よりもアルト・サックスの音がいい。
切れ味の良い音色、一音一音に気持ちを込めた目一杯のブロウ。
ディヴィッド・サンボーンにも通じるその過激な歌心、そして
バンドと触発してクールに熱を帯びるサウンドだ。
