女性学は過去20年間、大学、社会の多くの場で人々に浸透してきている。ただし、日本の女性学は諸外国の女性学の成果を取り込みつつも、どちらかといえば国内の問題に目を向けてきた。 しかし、21世紀を目前にした今、持続可能な開発がグローバルな課題となっている。それぞれの国々や地域の女性に固有の問題があると同時に、世界的な広がりをもつ問題、国や地域を越えて共有でき、女性が主体となって連帯することにより解決に向かうことが有効な問題も多い。 本書は、女性のエンパワーメントのために、今、女性学が何をどのような形で問題にしているかを、世界の中での日本という視点を持ちつつ、主要な領域について概説し、またそれを深めた議論を展開した。
