沖縄本島から東へ360km、絶海の孤島、南大東島には高校がない子どもたちはみな十五の春に島を旅立つ―実話をもとに練り上げられたオリジナル脚本から珠玉の感動作が誕生した沖縄の離島、南大東島。那覇から飛行機で約1時間、船で13時間かかる。さとうきび以外にほぼ産業はない。この島には高校がなく、15歳の春に島を出て、家族と離れて暮らさねばならない。実在する少女民謡グループ“ボロジノ娘”は、毎年毎年、その15歳の節目ごとにメンバーが入れ替わる。中学卒業の春、ボロジノ娘たちは南大東島の島唄「アバヨーイ(八丈島の方言で“さようなら”の意)」を多くの人々の前で、家族への想いを込めて歌う。子どもを送りだすすべての親と、親から巣立つすべての子どもが共感せずにはいられない、完全オリジナルストーリーの感動作が誕生した。
