リバプール出身のザ・バンディッツは、マージー出身のザ・コーラルという仲間のおかげで大々的に脚光を浴びたが、デビュー作は単なるモノマネどまりの平凡な習作に終わった。だが本作では、ダブ・レゲエ、ティファナ・ブラス、それに新たなリバプールのスタンダードである舟歌をも含む音楽的な視点と、ハンブルク時代のビートルズが持っていた原始的なロックのパワーとを結びつけている。おまけに重大な欠点も見当たらない本作は、ザ・コーラルの『Magic and Medicine』と肩を並べる、つかみどころのない文句なしのアルバムと言える。
なかでも出色なのは、メロトロンをかすかに乗せたレゲエのシャッフル「Chaos in the Courtroom」と「The Warning」だ。「The Warning」は黙示録的なリバプール・ポップのめくるめく洪水であり、マージー川から引きずり上げたばかりのようにぶるぶると震わせてくれる。ラーズのフロントマン、リー・メイヴァーズが現世のわずらわしさから逃れようとして死を選んでいたなら、あの世からヴォーカルを吹き込むことで完璧なサウンドを手に入れることができたかもしれない。そんなメイヴァーズを思わせる不気味なサウンドをザ・バンディッツのフロントマン、ジョン・ロビンソンは響かせている。
