カンナという女が結婚を約束した男を探しに東京の下町にやってくる。その男とは、「ビルマの竪琴」において戦死した仲間たちを弔うために祖国へ帰ることを拒んだ主人公の水島上等兵であり、実はとっくに日本に帰国していて、戦死者の遺骨でハンコを作り、儲けていたという……。
唐十郎
1940年東京生まれ。劇作家、作家、演出家、俳優、横浜国立大学教授。劇団「状況劇場」座長を経て劇団「唐組」主宰。全国各地で紅テントでの公演を続ける。「少女仮面」で岸田国士戯曲賞。「海星・河童」で泉鏡花文学賞。「佐川君からの手紙」で芥川賞。主な著書に「ベンガルの虎」「夜叉綺想」「蛇姫様」「秘密の花園」など。全集に「唐十郎全作品集」がある。「泥人魚」は、紀伊國屋演劇賞、読売文学賞、鶴屋南北戯曲賞を受賞した。
