1968年 第6戦 フランスGPでデビューした、本田宗一郎肝入りの空冷エンジンのホンダRA302をドライブする、ジョー・シュレッサーです。本田宗一郎氏がオイルクーラーの設置を許さなかったので、ドライバーを囲むようにダクトが取り付けられています。
ラジエーターを持たないので、ノーズにラジエーターの空気を取り入れる必要がないので、非常にカッコいいです。
残念ながら、デビューレースでクラッシュ炎上して、シュレッサーも亡くなってしまいました。
この事故が第一期ホンダF1の撤退に繋がったと言われています。
1988年にマクラーレン・ホンダの全勝を阻んだのは、ジョー・シュレッサーの甥っ子のジャン・ルイ・シュレッサーだったというのも、何か因縁みたいですね。
RA302は僅かなラップしか走っていないので、このようなショットは珍しいです。
