群馬県太田市の広報紙「広報おおた」に昭和48年6月より平成8年3月までの24年、274回にわたり連載された太田市とその周辺の歴史にまつわるコラムを書籍化。人物、史実、史跡、文化財、民話、神社仏閣など「にいた」の歴史を収録。
著者について
矢島力（つとむ）（1924-2009）群馬県太田市生まれ。太田市金山図書館、中島記念図書館館長、太田市役所総務部など勤務ののち太田市企画部市史編集室長に転任し「太田市史」の編纂に携わる。その間、太田市の広報紙に「にいたの遺産」と題した歴史コラムを24年（1973-1996）にわたって執筆。
