大阪府岸和田市の昼神古墳から出土した犬型埴輪の複製です。
これは、昭和51年に道路建設に伴う昼神古墳の前方部の発掘調査で発見されたもので、前方部テラスに動物埴輪や人物埴輪が配列されていたうちの一つです。
この埴輪の配列は、犬、猪、犬・猪・人物・人物・人物と並び、2匹の犬が1頭の猪を追っている様子を表しており、学会でも注目されるほど珍しい表現です。
画像に写っているものは、この形象埴輪群の中でも特に表現豊かな犬型埴輪を約1/10に縮小して複製したものです。
この複製は、昭和60年3月30日に大阪府教育委員会文化財保護課によって作成されました。
